famous for nothing

there was another opening at our friends gallery, Swiv Tackle Circus friday night. chris markovich had his first solo show, Famous for Nothing. i really liked his work -the colors, the scale, the humor.

nearly there

the rearranging of our workspace is nearly complete. so much so, that we both actually worked at our tables a bit today. there are still piles of "things" that need new homes and i really haven't tackled my worktable at all (i just keep moving the junk from one end to the other). one of the best things to come out of this move-around is that we've weeded out crud that hasn't been used in a long time (or ever).

with the room arranged this way, we've taken away a lot of usable space. there are now fewer shelves and my mom has one less table to work at. for the first time, mom's going to give sewing at a tall table a try -either standing or sitting at a tall chair. we'll have to see how this goes. the first time i heard of someone standing while sewing was from this woman.

what this set up gives us however, is more open space. with my table separating the work and live areas, rather than tall shelves, we get more light, more elbow room and a table to eat dinner at! that is exciting!

we had a visitor saturday and she brought us these gorgeous flowers; thanks kristine!
with the way the place (and we) looked, it should have been us giving her a gift.

moving along

progress is being made on our project. the main wall has been patched and painted. of course we noticed that every wall could use some help. mom decided to take the curtains down thursday, along with the hardware, so we are completely exposed now -feels great.
here is a picture of the progress. it's still messy, but better than this which was just a few days ago.

Progress
we aren't quite sure how it will end up and even if the rearranging was for the best. we'll just live with it for awhile and see how it goes.
more rearranging tomorrow! enjoy your weekend.

are we crazy?

projects are completed, shows over and done with...time to relax and enjoy the summer!
nope. not around here. saturday we decided to move our workspace around. that's not an easy task when you live and work in the same space -a very small space mind you. everything gets interrupted. luckily, my mother and i are easy-going and can live with everything in an upheaval for an amazingly long period of time. moving stuff around means removing shelves, patching holes and painting, all before the actual furniture can be rearranged and we then decide we hate it and move everything back again. however, we put the shelves removed from the wall out in the yard saturday with a FREE sign on them and they are of course gone -so much for going back to the way it was. and all of this gets done in the evenings and on the weekends because we still have jobs to go to.
here are a few pictures of our progress.

before: wall o' fabric

Patched wall
now: wall o' holes (which have been patched)

before: tidy work space

Messyworkspace
now: everything piled in the middle of the room.

so we will be busy for the next few weeks. if you decide to drop by please remember to bring your own chair, ours are all buried under piles of fabric.

i took myself to lunch today

i had to visit a shop that carries some of our clothes this afternoon and decided while down in san diego i would stay for lunch. i headed to little italy and a place called pappalecco. i had read about it maybe a year ago when it opened and had yet to make it down. it was great -the food, the gelato, the neighborhood and the weather was perfect....even this didn't ruin the meal

IMG_2900
nah, i'm kidding. my sweet stella could never ruin my meal, look at that face -so eager, so full of hope for any little scrap. well, the sandwich was too good, she didn't get a crumb today. she eventually relaxed and settled down in a patch of sun. does this picture look familiar?

a few more pictures from day are on flickr.
